Check this out, especially if you are new to this site. When you have finished reading the newest blogs, scroll to the bottom of the page to the " popular content" section and check out all of the pages of information. There are seasonal tips as well as good product reviews, fishing reports. These can help each season to help you prepare for a great year on the water. It seems like each time I go through all of the pages I find something that I may have missed before. Great reading on these endless cold and windy days.

Weather Outlook - Tag Cloudy

Submitted by tcgordon on Wed, 01/30/2013 - 21:05

I just added a "Tag Cloud" to the first sidebar of the site on the home page. This is just another demonstration of things we can do on the site. What is a tag cloud? For those that have been adding or browsing some of the blog entries or other content on the site, you've either been tagging content (i.e. assigning it to some relevant topic/category=tag) and/or seen and clicked on the tag names listed after such content. These tags are used to categorize or link similar content so a user can follow topics they are interested in.

The "tag cloud" then is just a visual display of the tags. While there are many real cool ways (even 3D like which i may throw one out there as well) to display the tags to emphasize/promote that tags content, the most basic presentation is to use a larger font for the most used tag(s) or place the follow the tag with the # of times its used.

Anyway, give it a whirl as i tag this content as "website features".

Call for Authors - How To Build a Reservoir Rig

Submitted by tcgordon on Mon, 01/21/2013 - 20:54

Okay so its not destined to make the New York Times Best Sellers list or Oprah's Book Club but i just drafted an outline of "Building a Reservoir Rig - A Guide to Building an All-Electric Fishing Boat". This is one of many items I'd like assistance with regarding the web site. (Send me an email, private message or see me at the meeting.)

Aside from the content of this book, the intention is to share this information with the general public and answer some of the common questions about building a reservoir rig. A lot of this is common "dock talk" for Metro Reservoir Anglers members in the morning before tournaments. We all started with canoes, cartop boats and gradually worked our way up to what we use in tournaments today. This is a chance to answer some FAQ's and hopefully prevent some anglers and boaters (tournament and non-tournament alike) from making some of the silly mistakes we made.

This also demonstrates the ability to present a "book" on the web site. Navigation and a printer friendly output is automatically provide. Again, this is just the outline or framework of what i quickly threw together tonight. Ideally this should be greatly expanded with content, links to products and services, sponsors, videos (also posted on our YouTube channel), links to blogs (e.g. on oxygenators), etc. Again, we're just getting started. ... Another book will be on and of the Lakes (history, maps, images, etc.) .

Tagging Content

Submitted by tcgordon on Thu, 01/10/2013 - 22:20

Bloggers, listen up! This is a new feature or field i just added to the blogs. When creating a new blog or editing an existing one, you will have the option to tag your content. That is, you can select 0 to 5 categories for your content. (I designed these, purposely keeping them general and am open to suggestions for new ones.)

What value does this add? You will see the tag list displayed at the end of blog entries. Clicking on a tag, will list all similarly tagged content. For example, i tagged a few of Bstandiford's blog entries for the Tip of The Day category. Clicking on the Tip of the Day link will show other similar blogs. Lets say you want to read about conservation or motor information. Just follow the tags.

In the future we can build menu entries to direct you to this content or just have a link of categories on the front page, etc.

PLEASE DO THIS. Click on some of your current content, click edit and then select some appropriate tags and save.

Metro Reservoir Anglers Channel on YouTube

Submitted by tcgordon on Sat, 01/05/2013 - 19:57

I Just created the Metro Reservoir Anglers channel on YouTube where we will be posting videos. For example this can be used to post videos on tournaments, collections of still shots of the reservoirs (e.g. in severe drought) and videos on how to build a reservoir rig. This should be the first of MANY videos.

This first video is a few random pictures from 1999-2001, mostly scanned in that i just threw together quickly as a test. You may recognize some of the guys in the pictures, some skinnier. No crazy mirrors were used nor images touched. You can watch the video here on the site or access the video on Metro Reservoir Anglers on You Tube. After viewing, subscribe to our channel to automatically receive future videos. Like It so others who follow you will be exposed to our channel. Enjoy Metro Reservoir Anglers TV!

Lake Maps - Updated

Submitted by tcgordon on Sat, 12/15/2012 - 22:14

I just added additional lake maps to The Lakes section on this site to pinpoint the boat ramp locations for Prettboy Reservoir and Loch Raven Reservoir. Sure, members and locals know where these are but remember the first time you launched your boat or met someone at one of the lakes? Please share with your friends, family, fishing buddies and community. Note you can click on the boat ramp icon, for example, on the liberty map for a brief description and even a link to the reservoir/watercraft permit. Thanks

New Forum category added - Fish Management

Submitted by tcgordon on Mon, 12/03/2012 - 18:33

Please add your topics on livewells, related products, anything that helps with care and handling of fish for catch and release, and other topics on fishery management here. I'd like to see some posts on good fizzers, links to the recent blogs on livewells and aerators, discussions about gizzard shad and pickerel populations, etc.
