The team of Rob Bertazon & Ron Broadwater are Anglers of the Year for 2015. Rob and Ron have claimed the AOY title in the past three consecutive years. This is an extraordinary accomplishment.
The AOY title is arguably the most difficult achievement in competitive bass fishing (at any level), because this achievement is a measure of both consistency and excellence of performance. It is nearly impossible to have even one bad performance in a season and still win the AOY. The team of Bertazon and Broadwater have won the Metro Reservoir Anglers AOY title more times than any other team.
In 2015 the competition for AOY was as tight as it can be, coming down to the final tournament. In the end Bertazon & Broadwater tied the team of Craig Gordon & Holden Wolfe, each with 582 AOY points. Rob & Ron won the title by virtue of the tie-breaker rule. Bertazon & Broadwater weighed 110.24 LBS of bass and Gordon & Wolf Weighed 106.17 LBS in 2015.
Congratulations to the team of Rob Bertazon and Ron Broadwater for their remarkable history of success. Your efforts provide an inspiration to all of our teams.
Congratulations to the team of Matt Elliott and Victor Rini for their victory in the Tournament of Champions. Matt and Victor brought 32.97 LBS of Liberty Bass to the scales in the two day event. Their 18.18 LB bag on Day 1 (the biggest bag of the tournament) included the 4.50 LB lunker of the day. Their 14.79 LB bag on day two of the event, included the 5.67 LB lunker of the day.
The team of Chad Wisner and Lenny Wisner achieved second place honors with a total of 30.14 LBS. Chad and Lenny weighed in 15.85 LBS on day 1 and 14.89 LBS on day 2 (the biggest bag of the day).
The team of Waino Anderson and Ron Wolfe earned third place honors with a total of 25.72 LBS. Ron and Waino weighed 14.00 LBS on day 1 and 11.72 LBS on day 2.
Congratulations to Matt, Victor, Chad, Lenny, Waino and Ron. These three teams put in great performances!
Participation in the MRA TOC is earned through the efforts put forth during an entire season of fishing. For that reason, congratulations also go to all of the competitors who fished their way into this event. Great Job!
Our Tournament of Champions will be held at Liberty Reservoir this weekend 10/24 & 10/25. Congratulations and good luck to the 11 teams that qualified for the event. As a reminder, MRA has a rule regarding fishing during the TOC event.
Rule 16 of our TOC rules is as follows:
16. All M.R.A.I. members not participating in the Tournament of Champions may not fish, and/or be in possession of a rod and reel on the T.O.C. lake during the time between the off-limits period through the conclusion of the T.O.C.
We hope to see everyone at the weigh-ins.
Cold, rain, wind... What better conditions for our last regular season tournament? Godwin and Walker claimed first place at Loch Raven in this final regular season tourney of the year. Ian and Ian capped the win with a 4.51 LB largemouth caught in the last seconds of the tourney. That fish increased their weight to 25.07 LBS, and gave them 1/2 share of the Lunker largemouth purse. Second place honors went to the team of Ghangi and Kosdemba who had a limit weighing 24.12 LBs and a Lunker largemouth weighing 4.51 Lbs. In third place was the team of Elliott and Rini with a 21.97 LB limit of largemouth bass. The 1.86 LB Lunker Smallmouth was caught by the team of Barger and Cleary. Congratulations to Ian, Ian, Gary, Don, Matt, Victor, Larry, and Cliff.. Thanks to all participants on this weather challenged day!
Also, Congratulations to the top 11 teams for making the TOC!
The last regular season tournament will be tomorrow 10/3 at Loch Raven. Its hard to believe the season has gone so fast. We will have weather to contend with. However the forecast seems to be improving. Check your bilge pumps and rain gear. They will probably get a workout tomorrow.
Just a reminder that everyone needs to weigh-in. The AOY and TOC rankings will be effected, and it is important that everyone weighs their fish tomorrow, (even if its only one 12 inch fish). As always, I look forward to seeing you all on the water. The safety of each team is the responsibility of that team. Make good safe choices so we can have a great tournament.
See you at registration!
Prettyboy champs Craig Gordon and Holden Wolfe, who are leading the Angler of the Year race by 7 points, are the first MRA team to reach 100 LBS, this season. With 5 events complete, Craig and Holden have averaged just over 20 pounds per tournament, and have brought an 8 fish limit to the scales in every event. The team of Gordon & Wolfe have been a model of consistency, placing no less than 6th in any event this season, including two tournament victories! The 2015 season seems to be an extension of the 2014 season for Craig and Holden, as they closed last season with a win in the Tournament of Champions! One more regular season event remains...
A windy day was just what the doctor ordered for several of the teams at our Prettyboy tournament. This tournament yielded some very nice bags and an MRA all-time Record! The team of Gordon and Wolfe claimed the top prize with an impressive weight of 21.09 Lbs. This elevated Craig and Holden into the lead for AOY points, with only 1 regular season event remaining. Second place honors went to the team of Anderson and Wolfe with a 19.67 LB limit. Close behind with 19.60 LBS, was the team of Malinowski and Smith, who claimed third place and also grabbed the Lunker Smallmouth prize with a beautiful 3.43 LB Prettyboy smallie. The Lunker Largemouth, and new MRA largest fish record, was caught by Max Marchant of the team of Marchant and Marchant (fishing with substitute Dale Davis). The 6.64 LB largemouth is Max’s lifetime personal best Largemouth.
Congratulations to Craig, Holden, Waino, Ron, Mel, Brian, Max and Dale!
