With less than a week till the first tournament, it's time to make the final preparations to boat and tackle. Check livewell hoses and pump, check oxygen system, put net, balance beam, scale, cull tags and weigh in bag in boat. Check battery levels and connections. Pare down rods and reels to a select few.(12 or 13 should suffice) also check tackle (sharpen or replace hooks if necessary. I hope everyone has a safe and competitive tournament season! Let's all help Walt Marchant to keep this club a fun and exciting trail to fish! Good luck to all!!
I am happy to report that Metro Reservoir Anglers are the proud owners of a new Pro Tournament H2 scale system. This is the system that is used in the professional bass tours. This new system replaces the scale system we have been using for many years. With dual harmonic dampening technology, our new system will lock onto the weight of thrashing fish within 5 seconds. This promises to make our weigh-ins faster and even more accurate.
Thanks in part to a donation from Bobby Staniford, Web site proceeds sent by Craig Gordon, and the upcoming proceeds of our open tournaments, we were able to make the purchase and take another step forward with our club.
Check out the video link below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xt42cPfkOm8 http://tournamentscales.com/h2-scale-deluxe-system/
Also, Our first tournament will be at Liberty Sunday 6/21. As a result Liberty reservoir will be off limits to MRA members 6/18 until tournament day. See you on the water!
It's hard to believe that the tournament season is almost here. Just a reminder to the few teams who have forms and fees that they haven't submitted yet, please get them in by June 1st. Also, we have had contact from a number of anglers that are interested in joining the club for the first time. To those anglers who are interested, but have not yet committed, we have room for a couple more teams this season. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss membership. We have just a few more days to register your team. If you enjoy friendly competition and like a challenge, you'll be glad you chose to fish with us!
See you on the water.
Elco Motor yachts has been in the business of electric propulsion for boats since 1892. Yes 1892! You may not have heard of them, because, until recently, they specialized in inboard electric propulsion for larger boats. see their history here: http://www.elcomotoryachts.com/history-of-elco.shtml
Within the past year Elco has gotten into our end of the industry. They have recently released 3 electric outboards. These are 5, 7 and 9.9 HP. There is a 15 HP outboard on the horizon. These are brushless, water cooled outboards. Elco is scheduled to release Lithium power systems within a few months. If these new outboards, and the new Lithium power supplies perform as expected, the next year or so will provide electric boaters with an interesting set of options. I have arranged with the sales manager of this product line to visit Baltimore with one of his motors and Lithium batteries to provide a demonstration to our club. I'll keep you all informed when we have a schedule. The photo below is the 9.9 pushing an 18 ft Sea Ark (reportedly at up to 9.3 mph). We are in the process of finalizing a club discount.
I thought you would all be interested in new options for our reservoir rigs.
Membership and tournament registration.
During our recent board meeting, it came to my attention that there are prospective members who are under the impression that it is mandatory to register for all 6 regular season tournaments, if they are to be members in good standing of our club. It is common for all of our members to fish all of our regular season tournaments. However, it is not mandatory. If a prospective team knows they won’t be able to fish in any tournament(s) in the upcoming season, they have two options.
Option 1: The team can choose to not register and not pay the entry fees for the tournament(s) they will miss. The team will receive no AOY points for those particular tournaments.
Option 2: The team can choose to pay the entry fees for the tournament(s) they will miss. If they choose this option, the team would receive last place AOY points for the tournament(s) they miss. Note: An MRA board member must be notified in advance that the team will not fish in a particular tournament.
Tournament registration fees are due prior to June 1st. Therefore teams must make this decision prior to June 1st.
I hope this clarifies the issue. Hope to see you at our Annual meeting on February 22nd.
Our annual meeting for 2015 is scheduled for Sunday, February 22nd. We will start at 1:00 PM. The meeting will be held at Casa Mia's restaurant 17417 York Road, Parkton MD 21120. We hope to see all MRA members and anyone interested in joining MRA. We look forward to a great tournament season!
I am very saddened to announce that the Metro Reservoir Anglers lost one of it's longest standing members and best guys today, Mr. Butch Wilson. Butch passed away early in the morning on Saturday, January 3rd.
Butch was a longtime bass fisherman and tournament angler. He will forever be remembered sitting in the back seat of Larry Barger's boat and bringing in those big bags of bass to the scales. Together, Butch and Larry were one of the all-time leading teams in the MRA. You knew the tournament was never over until they weighed their fish.
There are no plans for a memorial service at Butch's request. Instead, just think fondly of one of the nicest guys to ever grace the reservoirs and remember him the next time you land a fish.

As most of our club members are aware, positions on our board of directors are temporary, with each director elected for a term of three years. Our President Rob Bertazon will be leaving his position as President as of January 1st 2015. We are fortunate to have two club members who have offered to serve on the board starting in 2015. As a result, the nominating committee has put Mike Ahlfeldt and Ralph Davis on the ballot for election to the board. Holden Wolf, Chad Wisner, and Walt Marchant will remain on the board for 2015.
If there are any other members that would like to serve on the board, please respond to this notice, so we can include you on the ballot for election to the board.
Your assistance will be appreciated.
There is an online Ballot available to members. Simply logon to this website. Under the Members Only heading is a link to the ballot.
