In the past few weeks, MRA has received a number of submissions from anglers who want to fish with us. They are offering to become a co-angler for a member (or prospective member) who wants to complete, but needs a partner.
If you need a co-angler, respond by email to: firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll supply contact information, so you can talk to the candidates.
I am happy to report that Anglers Express is providing tackle discounts to all current MRA members. If you haven't visited the shop, take a look. 117 Old Padonia Road, Suite C Cockyesville, MD. The selection is excellent. Eric and Chris will take good care of you. Note: There are a couple of teams who have not yet submitted their 2016 forms. Get your membership forms in, so you can start taking advantage of the 2016 MRA discount program.
MRA has room for a couple more teams in the 2016 season. If you are interested in testing your angling skills, and competing with skilled reservoir anglers in a friendly environment, we would like to hear from you. You still have time to register for the 2016 tournament season. If you have ever wondered how you would do in these events, maybe it's time to give it a try.

Our annual meeting for 2016 is scheduled for Sunday, February 28th. The meeting will be held at Casa Mia's restaurant 17417 York Road, Parkton MD 21120. We will start at 1:00 PM, so come hungry, Casa Mia's has a great menu. We hope to see all MRA members and anyone interested in joining MRA. We look forward to a great 2016 tournament season!
Thirty two anglers in eighteen boats participated in our annual Icebreaker Tournament. The cold 29 degree foggy start was quickly followed by a beautiful warm sunny day. Unfortunately, for most of the competitors, the big bass were not in a mood to come out and play. The team of Waino Anderson and Ron Wolfe broke through with a 5.57 Lb lunker largemouth to win the tournament. Ron caught the winning fish after masterfully employing a 20-minute dead sticking approach that required a level of patience that most mere mortals simply don't possess. You'll have to get the rest of that story from Ron or Waino. It's a good laugh.
Thanks to Anglers Express for generously providing coffee and donuts prior to the start of the tournament, and for their generous awards of tackle discounts to the top three teams in the tournament. I suggest that all MRA members should check out their Timonium store.
Congratulations to Ron and Waino for a great finish on a challenging day.
To all members of the MRA: If you have considered serving on our board, now would be a great time to join us. Two of our five board members will not be returning to serve on the board next year. As a result, we will be needing some additional help running the club in 2016. Feel free to contact me, and/or respond to this post.
The team of Rob Bertazon & Ron Broadwater are Anglers of the Year for 2015. Rob and Ron have claimed the AOY title in the past three consecutive years. This is an extraordinary accomplishment.
The AOY title is arguably the most difficult achievement in competitive bass fishing (at any level), because this achievement is a measure of both consistency and excellence of performance. It is nearly impossible to have even one bad performance in a season and still win the AOY. The team of Bertazon and Broadwater have won the Metro Reservoir Anglers AOY title more times than any other team.
In 2015 the competition for AOY was as tight as it can be, coming down to the final tournament. In the end Bertazon & Broadwater tied the team of Craig Gordon & Holden Wolfe, each with 582 AOY points. Rob & Ron won the title by virtue of the tie-breaker rule. Bertazon & Broadwater weighed 110.24 LBS of bass and Gordon & Wolf Weighed 106.17 LBS in 2015.
Congratulations to the team of Rob Bertazon and Ron Broadwater for their remarkable history of success. Your efforts provide an inspiration to all of our teams.
Congratulations to the team of Matt Elliott and Victor Rini for their victory in the Tournament of Champions. Matt and Victor brought 32.97 LBS of Liberty Bass to the scales in the two day event. Their 18.18 LB bag on Day 1 (the biggest bag of the tournament) included the 4.50 LB lunker of the day. Their 14.79 LB bag on day two of the event, included the 5.67 LB lunker of the day.
The team of Chad Wisner and Lenny Wisner achieved second place honors with a total of 30.14 LBS. Chad and Lenny weighed in 15.85 LBS on day 1 and 14.89 LBS on day 2 (the biggest bag of the day).
The team of Waino Anderson and Ron Wolfe earned third place honors with a total of 25.72 LBS. Ron and Waino weighed 14.00 LBS on day 1 and 11.72 LBS on day 2.
Congratulations to Matt, Victor, Chad, Lenny, Waino and Ron. These three teams put in great performances!
Participation in the MRA TOC is earned through the efforts put forth during an entire season of fishing. For that reason, congratulations also go to all of the competitors who fished their way into this event. Great Job!
Our Tournament of Champions will be held at Liberty Reservoir this weekend 10/24 & 10/25. Congratulations and good luck to the 11 teams that qualified for the event. As a reminder, MRA has a rule regarding fishing during the TOC event.
Rule 16 of our TOC rules is as follows:
16. All M.R.A.I. members not participating in the Tournament of Champions may not fish, and/or be in possession of a rod and reel on the T.O.C. lake during the time between the off-limits period through the conclusion of the T.O.C.
We hope to see everyone at the weigh-ins.
