We all know people who play sports are superstitious. Some baseball players do not step on the foul lines, football players who have the same pre-game meal or music . How about the fisherman, whether tournament pro or weekend angler I am sure there are some good superstitions. It is supposed to be bad luck to have bananas in the boat. On the first tournament of the year in the morning after " blast off" I saw one of the winning anglers eating a banana on the way up the lake. Go figure. My biggest fear is the dreaded zero, the big O , so on the day before and the day of the tournament I don't eat cherriOs or OreOs or anything that has "O" in it. What are your superstitions?

Getting up at 1am for 7am
Getting up at 1am for 7am tourney! (Not mine, but my partners!LOL) This was easier to do in my younger years but now into my 40s its getting a little tougher. I keep telling him that Im going to sleep on the boat until blast off but my adrenaline is pumping so hard its impossible to sleep!
Running out of fishing
Running out of fishing clothes!
One superstition that I recently abandoned was: never to wear the same clothes in a tournament which were previously warn in an “unlucky” tournament. As many of you can imagine, I was getting to the point at which my choice of available “lucky” clothing was becoming seriously depleted. I abandoned that superstition rather than fish sans clothes in the first tournament of the 2012 season. This was the same tournament that I looked over to see my new tournament partner eating a banana as we headed to the start line. With a very lucky 3rd place finish in that tournament, I have chosen to abandon all tournament superstitions except the following 3: Always double check the boats’ drain plug before launching, never (ever) predict a good finish in a tournament, and finally, never be superstitious when fishing a tournament.
I always have my wife call
I always have my wife call right after 7am and again every few hours. Not sure why, but we seem to always manage a fish or two right after the phone calls. Made the connection about 5 years ago after my old partner stated "Hey make sure your wife calls again".
