I am so glad to have found this group. I moved to Baltimore from NY 4 yrs back and I am now fishing Liberty Reservoir for my third summer. I love the beauty of the lake and the fishing possibilities that it contains. However, the lake is much larger than anything that I am used to and, quite honestly, I usually get overwhelmed once I am on the water. I have not really had much success with the fishing. I finally did catch a few Largemouths (3) in the spring this year using senkos around some sunken trees in the south part but other than that, no bass.
I have found my comfort zone on the lake trolling night crawlers behind a 2oz weight and catching white perch. This is not where I want to be. I always plan to bass fish but invariably spend my time on the lake fishing for pan fish.
Can anyone offer some general suggestions for fishing for bass at Liberty? I am using senkos along the shoreline but I have the feeling that I need to be fishing deeper. Should I fish the senkos texas rigged? (I have never caught fish on plastics with weight).
I would also like to try to catch a striper. I believe this is the time of year to do so. Any tips?
Lastly, is the anywhere near the reservoir (or near Owings Mills) to buy live shiners/minnows?
Thanks and good luck to all of you who will be participating in the Tournament of Champions. I hope to come to the ramp that day and hopefully meet some of you.
