This post doesnt necessarily go here as its not a mobile (i.e. phone, smartphone, iPad,etc. ) app but complimentary. This is really targeted to those who have bought into the Apple "ecosystem" (i.e. iPod touch, iPhone, iPad, iPad mini, MacBook). I've tried a bunch of apps and tools to (re)view pictures and videos on a home TV - not just fishing/fishing trips, but really anything. (One key library I review is the approximate 850 digitals of every inch of Prettyboy when it was down 28-35+ feet years ago.) I've tranfered pictures to USB device and plugged it into my TV, used an adapter with an HDMI cable to connect an iphone/ipad to the TV, used the Samsung PC share program (via the Samsung TV or Blu Ray), or uploaded them to an internet photo site like Flickr. However, nothing is as slick as using Apple TV: http://www.amazon.com/Apple-TV-MD199LL-NEWEST-VERSION/dp/B007I5JT4S This poorly named device (Apple For TV would be better) is not a TV, is not a new brand of TV from Apple, nor requires any special TV. Connecting it to your home network (wirelessly or wired) and receiver or directly to your TV, it offers similar functionality to that built into many TVs or DVD players with its links to popular online services like Netflix, Youtube, etc. Nothing different there.
What makes this device cool, and the main thing i wanted it for was the ability to mirror an iPhone or moreso, my iPad to easily and quickly browse pictures and videos. No transferring pictures, no wires, not by hooking anything up and no delays or slowness in the app or control using a primitive tv remote. Connecting this device to my home network and receiver took like 10 mins. if that. With the Apple TV menu and apps on the screen, to mirror an iPad or iPhone (4s or 5), you just hit your home button twice on the mobile device and swipe the recently used apps on the bottom row of your device. All the way to the left will be controls some controls, one being a highlighted up arrow you use to enable mirroring. Hit that and whala, your phone or ipad is now on your TV. (Everyone in my family flipped when they saw this.) From there use your device, preferably turned side/wide view, to run any app but great for picture viewing.
Droid Bionic has a micro hdmi port and offers a similar function with the purchase of a micro hdmi to hdmi adapter cable. Once you plug it in you are prompted to mirror. I could not believe the quality on a 47" TV. We used it to stream a movie and it looked great. My kids like to play Angry Birds on there.
