The team of Matt Elliott and Victor Rini shattered the previous record for largest catch with a bag weighing 35.14 Lbs., at our Liberty Reservoir tournament 9/17/16. The previous record of 32.90 Lbs. was caught at Prettyboy Reservoir by the team of Waino Anderson and Ron Wolfe. That record remained uncontested for more than 13 years. Matt and Victor took first place in the tournament and also claimed the largemouth lunker prize with a 5.52 Lb largemouth. The team of Chad Wisner and Leonard Wisner took second place with 25.57 Lbs. Third place went to the team of Waino Anderson and Ron Wolfe with 21.34 Lbs. Waino and Ron also won the Smallmouth lunker prize with a 3.19 Lb. smallmouth. Congratulations to all competitors.

WOW, that's amazing, congrats
WOW, that's amazing, congrats to Matt and Victor. Great job!!!!!
My partner and I joined this club and started fishing these lakes only 5 years ago to add a little excitement and challenge instead of just a fun day out on the lake. I feel we have accomplished that, we never joined because we thought we were better than anyone else. So I would agree with the dock talk that we fall into the "donator" category, I don't have problem with that. I fish with the club to have fun and get better.
The problem, we were approached by several teams on Sat about getting in another teams way during the tournament, I thought the rule was 50 ft. Apparently we messed up their day. At Liberty my teammate and I have always went the opposite direction than most teams, at Prettyboy we always start in an area that no one fishes, at Loch Raven we go to what we feel is the least crowded area, we are not there to steel anyone's spots. We go to our areas and hope for the best, last year at PB we got lucky and was only 1.5 lbs away from winning, we got lucky in our area.
I'm sure that everyone of you has fished a spot that you saw someone catch fish off of, I'm sure other people caught fish off the spot that Matt & Victor caught great bag off of, the last I checked nobody owns a spot.
Which brings me to "donators", we are just has important to this club as anyone else, without donations the prize money you collect might not be as good. If you want my money just let me fish, if you don't want me around let me know.
I hope the way I feel right now is not the reason that membership is declining. Remember, there cant be a first place without a last place. I just love to fish.
Our club is fortunate to have
Our club is fortunate to have a great group of people, such as yourself, who share the same love of fishing. As a group, we all try to be respectful of others.
You are not a donator. You have been fishing most of your life, but entered reservoir tournament angling in recent years. I know that you and I both started fishing the tournaments to improve our fishing and to enjoy the friendship of like minded anglers. Anyone who wants to have an opportunity to improve their fishing would do well to fish tournaments. Our club is very welcoming to new members.
You have as much a right to succeed as the most experienced anglers in the club. You also have a right to fish any spot on a reservoir. No one owns any spot. If you find the best spot on the reservoir and can get to that spot before others, you are just as entitled to the spot as a person who has fished that spot for 30 years. Your time will come, probably sooner than later. Our membership is down a bit this year, but we are taking the right steps to increase membership next year.
Good post, Walt. Thanks for
Good post, Walt. Thanks for taking the time.
Hah, as for Matt/Victor what can you say. These guys are amazing and my hat is off to them. Robbie and I joked between our bag and his we still wouldn't have caught you. Again, CONGRATS and great job!
Slorolun, 50ft is 50ft. I wasn't there and don't know how close you got or whatever. I will just tell you how I fell regarding approaching another boat...1st question, Were they there first? If so, I pretty much abandon the area. 2nd question, can they reach me with their longest cast? If so, for me, I am too close. I don't know who you are but we enjoy you in the club and hope you will stay. Just my 2cents....
Congratulations Matt and
Congratulations Matt and Victor! That was incredible! I was glad I was at the scales to witness that impressive bag of fish!!! It is always good to see someone have a special day like that. Truly Amazing!!!
Also kudos to Chad and Lenny and Ron and Waino on your consistent top finishes as well. I'm always impressed by your fishing skills!
Slorolun. I enjoy everyone in
Slorolun. I enjoy everyone in this club and want to see this club grow. Everyone of us is key to the clubs success. As everyone reads these posts it also helps us all communicate when the stress of a tournament is behind us. If someone thought I was fishing to close I would hope they would say something to me at that time so it would cause no hard feelings later. I just love to fish as well. No one tries to crowd my "small fish spots"
