Metro Reservoir Anglers Inc.

About the Metro Reservoir Anglers, Inc.

The Metro Reservoir Anglers, Inc. is a non-profit organization formed in 1998 to promote bass fishing through the conservation of our resources, the camaraderie of our members and the excitement of competition. This corporation is the evolutionary product of a core group of anglers that had fished together for over ten years.

Our organization is proud to fish the three reservoirs that make up the primary water supply for the City of Baltimore in the state of Maryland. All three of these lakes, Liberty, Loch Raven and Prettyboy Reservoirs, are restricted to the use of electric motors only. As a result, these impoundments are probably some of the most pristine waters found in close proximity to a major metropolitan area in the United States.

As a group we believe that bass fishing is a wonderful way to spend time with our families and friends, and greatly enhances our enjoyment of both. The Metro Reservoir Anglers, Inc. wishes to make certain that everyone will be able to continue to enjoy this sport. Therefore, we actively encourage the use of all conservation techniques and programs that promote a clean, healthy water supply and a vital fishery.

All of us have witnessed the effects that pollution and over-harvesting has had on fisheries across the nation. Likewise, we have seen the amazing results of conservation efforts and restoration projects working to restore damaged fisheries.

Our members are fortunate to fish lakes that have been closely monitored and managed, and have evaded the perils of modern society. The M.R.A.I. hopes that through education and application of conservation techniques, people will continue to enjoy our favorite sport for generations to come.

Just as important as having a good fishery, is having good people to share it with. We believe the Metro Reservoir Anglers, Inc. stands apart from many other fishing organizations because our membership is so closely knit. The consistent participation of our members in all our functions could only be attained if they truly enjoyed each others' company. The social aspect of bass fishing is just as important to us as the fishing itself.

Our membership reflects a diverse group of individuals that share a common love of fishing. M.R.A.I. members come from the Greater Baltimore region as well as from southern Pennsylvania. Likewise, the membership displays a wide spectrum of social and economic backgrounds. Our membership also reflects what a benefit fishing can have on family. We have, or have had teams comprised of husbands and wives, brothers, as well as fathers and sons. We have also had one father and daughter team.

The members of the Metro Reservoir Anglers, Inc. believe that a prime method to educate the public and show them the effects of conservation, promote bass fishing, and share the thrill of bass fishing with others is to conduct tournaments for our members. Therefore, we sponsor a two-man team tournament trail. Our schedule consists of six qualifying tournaments and a season ending two-day Tournament of Champions.

It is at these events where spectators can gather and see that through conservation and the application of proper fish handling techniques, fishing can be enjoyed by many people without adversely affecting the resource. People that fish very little, or not at all, can get a glimpse of how much fun and excitement bass fishing can generate. Also, these events provide our members the opportunity to test their skills and the share their results with one another. Through the tournaments, both our spectators and members learn more about bass fishing and how to become more effective fishermen.

Our organization is primarily funded through the dues and entry fees paid by our members. However, we do appreciate sponsors for our trophies and refreshments we supply at each event. Also, we accept donations of products that are given as consolation prizes at each tournament. We also accept sponsorships that offset costs directly related to holding each event. Finally, we accept sponsors that offset the general organizational expenses that are incurred by the group. Should you, or an organization you know of, be interested in helping the Metro Reservoir Anglers, Inc. continue in its' effort to promote bass fishing, please contact the Metro Reservoir Anglers, Inc. via the email feedback on this site.

Thank you for your interest in our organization! Please visit our website regularly!
